Lyft and Waymo to team up on self-driving cars amid Uber controversy

Lyft and Waymo are working together on self-driving car technology, with a new deal first reported by the New York Times on Sunday. The deal has been confirmed by both parties, and will see Google’s former self-driving car unit work together with the ride-hailing company on efforts to introduce self-driving to the general population via fleet services.

Uber makes 1 billionth trip, passenger gets a year of free Uber rides

Uber recently announced that, back on Christmas Eve, two riders in London officially made the company’s 1 billionth trip. Driver Ara picked up passenger Marvin in London Fields, Hackney in a blue Honda Insight and made the £5 trip to Hoxton, Uber said in a blog post announcing the news.

Tesla Really Is Working On Robotic Charging Plug for the Model S

Back in October, when Tesla unveiled the dual-motor Model S, Elon Musk joked that future cars would come with a robotic charger that plugs in automatically when you get home. At least we though he was joking, until Musk revealed on Twitter this morning that the futuristic charger may soon become a reality.

Tesla Launches Battery Swap Pilot Program for Model S Owners

Tesla CEO Elon Musk this week revealed details about the car company’s plans to offer a battery swapping service, which the company originally unveiled last year. Invited Model S owners will have the opportunity to participate in the new pilot program by appointment-only in Harris Ranch, CA. The immediate goal is to test the technology and “assess demand;” if all goes well, Tesla could roll out the service even further to areas close to its growing Supercharger Network.

Walmart Debuts Super Futuristic Electric Truck Protoype

We don’t often cover semi-trailer trucks around here (actually, I don’t think we ever have), but when we see something cool we’ll bring it to you nonetheless. Walmart recently debuted an awesome-looking futuristic truck prototype during the Mid-America Trucking Show in Kentucky. The truck you see in the picture above still runs on diesel, though has the ability to run on electric power when needed. “Although the prototype currently runs on diesel, its turbine is fuel neutral and can run on compressed or liquid natural gas, biofuels or other fuels,” Walmart explained.
